Louise Baldry - Constituency Campaign Co-ordinatorr

Louise was elected as our Campaign Co-ordinator at the July 2019 AGM. Previoulsy she served  Womens Officer between July 2018 and July 2019, having been llected to that post at the July 2018 AGM.

She writes:

I joined the Labour Party when I experienced first hand what is happening with the NHS in 2015.  My 3 week old baby was poorly; we found out he had a serious problem with his heart at the James Paget Hospital. The registrars told us he needed emergency open heart surgery, but were struggling to find a bed for him in a hospital that had the right surgeons. Once a bed had been found there was the issue of transferring him – no ambulances. The nurses even called 999 to get him transferred. 24 hours after diagnosis (and worrying about him going into cardiac arrest) we ended up travelling 4 hours to Southampton, where the surgery was delayed twice due to staffing issues. And who wants an exhausted surgeon and their team operating on their baby? Luckily, he pulled through due to the extremely hard working doctors and nurses, and is still under the care of Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital.

This government is awful for most people in this country – only the extremely rich benefit. I can’t sit back and do nothing. If we continue with this government for much longer, my children will be the first generation in my family where they are worse off in every way.  That’s the same for anyone with young children. I aim to get Jeremy Corbyn into No. 10 by door knocking, leafleting, as well as standing for being a district councillor myself. We need to get Labour back in power: Labour will make this country a place which doesn’t just allow the rich to get richer but where everybody can thrive.
