Upcoming NEC elections

Nominate Laura Pidcock

Dear Constituency Secretary,

Firstly, thank you in advance for distributing this email to your constituency membership (apologies if you have already held your nominating meeting), it is very much appreciated and thank you for all you do for our party.

Dear member,

We stand at a crucial moment for the Labour Party, as well as for working people and communities across the United Kingdom.

Because of the historic defeat in the General Election, some will argue that winning a future General Election is dependent on a dilution of our ambition and a departure from our socialist principles. I think this is misguided. We are facing an intense and prolonged crisis which will have even more stark consequences for working people than the poverty experienced in the last decade of austerity. We know that the 2019 manifesto has already been vindicated, because many of the policies proposed in it are precisely the remedies to the problems we now face.

I am standing for the NEC elections as part of the Grassroots Voice team to defend socialist principles, to make sure that the policies in the 2019 manifesto are not abandoned, but built upon and expanded. I am standing to ensure that we continue to argue for structural change and do not slip back towards a politics of managerialism.

Representing the grassroots membership on the NEC would be an honour. The members are the Labour Party, equal to any leadership, no matter who they are. Members should be central to every decision-making process in our party, and conference should be sovereign. Our Westminster representatives should be bound by the democratic decisions made by the members of our party.

I will stand up, passionately, for the right of members to be able to have full and frank political debates in their branch and constituency meetings. Any attempt to restrict the space in which members are able to discuss and argue for their politics or to hold the leadership to account will be countered by the Grassroots Voice team.

These NEC elections are crucial. In the midst of a public health and political crisis, we have to think long and hard about what we want the Labour Party to be. Above all, we have to be there, relentlessly fighting on the side of working-class people and our communities.

Please do consider nominating the Grassroots Voice Team: Nadia Jama, Yasmine Dar, Ann Henderson, Mish Rahman, Gemma Bolton and Laura Pidcock.

In solidarity,

Laura Pidcock
