A brief update from Broadland District Council from Natasha Harpley
All panel and committee meetings have been cancelled and as many Thorpe Lodge staff as possible are working from home or social distancing in the workplace. Residents have been advised to stay away from the building unless absolutely necessary and contact numbers/email addresses have been provided.
Residents have also been given general safety advice and are regularly being updated on new protocols and initiatives as and when central government give them. There are dedicated staff dealing with such enquiries and additional staffing going into departments where an increase in use is expected, such as benefits.
Each area has a Good Neighbours scheme with appointments co-ordinators, this is in addition to various mutual aid groups although for safety reasons, BDC are encouraging volunteers to sign up to help through their own managed service: https://www.smartsurvey.co.uk/s/Icanhelp/
And in non-Corona news, you may be aware that Breanne and I pledged to not keep any councillor allowance increase that was above inflation – this increase and backdated amount has now been given to us and we are currently sharing it out amongst local good causes. So far we have given over £850 to organisations assisting in the Covid-19 response and a domestic abuse charity. The remaining £650 ish will be spent locally when it becomes clearer how various organisations will be operating throughout this pandemic.
