Parish and Town Council vacancies
Currently there are two vacancies for a town councillor in Reepham – closing date 28 August 2018 and a vacancy for a parish councillor in Drayton North – closing date 23 August 2018. If you are interested in becoming a Parish or Town Councillor, contact your local Parish council clerk.
You can get notified of any Parish & Town Council vacancies in Broadland by registering at Town and Parish Council Vacancies.
District Council Elections
We’re going to be targeting Taverham North from now until the May 2019 elections so we can secure two Labour Councillors on Broadland District Council for the ward.
We will be building on the door knocking sessions we have held there in the last year trying to make sure we talk to every household before the elections. We’ll be delivering several leaflets during this time.
Our first leaflet delivery will be during the first two weeks of September – if you can spend a couple of hours putting leaflets through doors – please get in touch!
We will restart our Door knocking sessions at 11am every Sunday staring Sunday 2nd September. Linda will be sorting out meeting places nearer the time so let her know if you are willing to help with this. It doesn’t matter if you’ve never done it before you can shadow someone else for as long as you like until you feel confident of doing it yourself.
If you are able to help, please get in touch with Linda Brown (Campaign Organiser Wensum Valley Branch) email@example.com, 01603 872762 or 07884295905
Other wards in the Wensum Valley Branch area will have leaflets delivered nearer the time of the election so we will need help in delivering these as well.
We have to find candidates for 27 seats in our part of the Broadland District. In most cases these will be what we call “Paper candidates”. These are seats where we are unlikely to win and where we don’t have the resources to campaign effectively. But we do want to have a Labour candidate in every Broadland seat so that Labour supporters can exercise their vote. Although we are unlikely to win any of these seats we will gain useful intelligence form the number of Labour votes cast and this will help us in developing our future campaign strategy.
If you would like to know more or if you have any questions then please contact the Chair, David Heywood at Chair@BCLP.UK.
Broadland General Meeting
Don’t forget our next General Meeting on the 8th September.
This meeting will take place in the Acle Community Centre, and we will be discussing motions to submit to the Party Conference later in the month. We will also be looking at the motions likely to appear on the Conference agenda so that we can give guidance to our delegate on how he should vote. Should you wish to submit a motion for debate at that meeting or self nominate for the vacancies on the Executive Committee (Trades Union Liaison Officers & Campaigns Coordinator) you need the motion or nomination to the Secretary by 25th August so it can be circulated to all members – Sec@BCLP.UK.
The agenda with final details will be issued by the Secretary by the 1st September.
Next Wensum Valley branch meeting
The next meeting of our branch will be on Thursday 11th October at 7.30pm. The venue is still to be decided.
