Subject: NEC BAME Representative Election – The Grassroot Candidate

** Dear secretary, I would appreciate if you could please circulate the below message with members in time for ballots on Monday 24th **

Friends & Comrades,

I’m standing as your candidate for NEC BAME Representative and I’m asking for your vote!

A few days ago, I was proud to announce my 5 Pledges for our BAME movement!

To hear more about these pledges and my vision for our Party and BAME Members please see my announcement: https://labourlist.org/2020/02/jermain-jackman-why-im-standing-to-be-a-member-of-labours-nec/

The upcoming NEC BAME Representative elections are crucial and mark a turning point for our BAME members. The NEC BAME role has, for too long, been used as a political stepping stone or a box ticking exercise. Whereas, with your support and vote, I would transform the role into a megaphone for BAME concerns, ensuring no voice goes unheard in our Party.

While I may be one of the youngest candidates I am no less credible or qualified. At the age of 25, I’m a proud socialist and grassroots Labour activist who has canvassed and campaigned across the country. I hold various roles within my CLP and Ethnic Minority Forum, and spent the past two General Elections working with leadership to help register young people to vote.

From the Institutional racism in our Home Office and Criminal Justice System to the rise of hate crime and discriminatory practices by employers, now more than ever, we need a strong voice on the NEC to champion and campaign on the issues affecting our communities.

I am a fighter and a campaigner at heart and I will be a strong voice for every member of colour. My vision is to build on, empower and mobilise BAME members across the country to contribute to policy, strategy and campaigns while ensuring our values of inclusivity and equality remain central to our future.

This is an exciting opportunity with great potential for change, so vote for me because your voice matters and I’ll ensure it is heard!

In Solidarity,

Jermain Jackman
