Subject: Fwd: NEC Statement
I am standing for one of the two vacant CLP seats on Labour’s NEC and would like to be considered for nomination from the floor at your next meeting.
Please find the PDF of my statement attached and more information below.
Here’s a few other answers to frequently asked questions not covered in my statement that you may find helpful too:
I fully support open selection. Being an MP should not be a job for life, they are accountable to both the membership and voters. The current trigger system is divisive and nasty, this way everyone faces the same process at the same time. I will work to ensure better communication between the party nationally and local CLPs. I am a strong believer in our members getting out in their communities and think we should be encouraging as many as possible to stand as school governors, to set up residents associations, to become active in their trade unions, to volunteer where possible, and to hold events that are open to non-members to educate on specific policy/areas of the manifesto and let them feed in locally. I am very involved with the green new deal. I will always try and visit any CLP that invites me (diary permitting!) to chat about what members want/need and believe we should always be transparent in our decision making. We must walk the walk as well and talk the talk. I want us identifying community leaders and empowering them to stand for positions locally, do not agree with ‘parachuting in’ candidates where suitable candidates are available locally and think we should select candidates in good time in EVERY CLP so they have the opportunity to build bonds in their community and build face/name recognition prior to elections.
Please let me know if you have any other specific questions.
