Their joint statements is below:
We are asking for your support to gain election to the Eastern Regional Executive Committee in November 2019 at the Regional Conference.
Who are we?
Cathy is Chair of Great Yarmouth CLP, a Labour Councillor on Great Yarmouth Borough Council and Deputy Leader of the Labour Group.
This year Cathy graduated from the Jo Cox Women in Leadership programme.
As a qualified teacher, Cathy spent 15 years working in Coventry before returning to Norfolk. She co-founded and runs an award winning community training provider in Great Yarmouth. Cathy is an experienced campaigner who has fought to save Norfolk’s Children’s Centres and supported families affected by cuts to SEND funding.
“As the first woman Chair of Great Yarmouth CLP I have worked hard to establish a culture of support, equality and opportunity. I want to be elected to the Regional Executive Committee to provide a strong voice for all our members and to ensure we establish a framework of support ready for a Labour Government
As a member of the REC I can guarantee my total commitment to representing all our members and ensuring effective two-way communication.”
David has been a member of the Eastern Region Board since November 2018
He is currently Political Education Officer of Broadland CLP as well as Trade Union Liaison Officer.
“Since joining the Regional Board in November 2018 I have attended two Regional Board meetings. I am still unclear about the role of the Regional Board and the place of CLP reps on the Board. It appears to be no more than a talking shop and Board members seem to have very little influence on its direction. I hope this will change with the formation of the Regional Executive Committee and I look forward to working with other CLP reps from across the region in making sure that our voice is heard.”
David joined the Labour Party in 1971 in South Norfolk and remained a member in various constituencies, including Lewisham East, until 2003. He rejoined the Party in October 2010 following the election of Ed Miliband as Leader.
David was a civil service trade union activist in the Eastern region in the early 1970’s before becoming a full time official for his union (SCPS and now part of the PCS union). In 1993 David returned to Norfolk and in 1999 was appointed to lead the TUC Education Centre at City College Norwich. He worked as a TUC tutor until 2014 when the TUC unit was closed down.
David is a member of Unite and has been active in his branch (Retired Members). He has been an officer of Broadland CLP since 2016. He is currently Vice Chair of the Norfolk County Local Campaign Forum.
Eastern Region CLPs are able to nominate two candidates for election to the Regional Executive Committee and we are asking your CLP to nominate us and for your delegate to vote for us both at Regional Conference.
